FREYA is an Al Mason designed "Intrepid" steel sloop built in 1953 by Gilbert Klingel, the man who literally wrote the book on building small boats in steel.
The known history of Freya starts in 1995 when Tim Loncarich purchased the boat from a boat yard in Pensacola, Florida after it had been abandoned by the previous owner. The boat was in poor condition and had apparently had little or no maintenance for many years.
The boat was relocated to a construction yard in Ocala, Florida where it was stripped down to bare metal inside and out, the hull was repaired in several places and a new rudder was built.
Tim did not have time to complete the restoration so he donated it in 2004 to the Vinalhaven Vo-Tech Boat Building School in Maine. Under the direction of Instructor Mark Jackson, the boat was completely rebuilt as a class project, re-christened Freya and launched in 2006.
Mark and students who had been involved in Freya's resurrection cruised the boat down the East Coast all the way to Florida and the Bahamas and back up to Maine over the course of a year.
Tim purchased Freya back from the school in 2009 and had her trucked to St. Augustine, FL. Unfortunately Tim no longer has the time to properly enjoy Freya and is currently looking for someone to buy her.
