Laura Dekker Resumes Voyage
After waiting out hurricane season, Laura Dekker has resumed her attempt to be the youngest to sail around the world alone.
Laura Dekker, the 15-year-old girl hoping to become the youngest person to sail solo round the world, has restarted her voyage after spending two months moored in the Canary Islands waiting for the hurricane season to end.
Dekker is now heading for the Cape Verde islands and will then move on towards Sint Maarten. In her weblog she writes that she has to 'get used to the silence'. 'But it is great to see nothing but water and to enjoy sailing,' she adds.
Dekker had originally planned to leave on her trip when she was 13 but was placed under the care of social workers who said she was too immature and not properly prepared to make the trip.
The supervision order was lifted in July.
